DSW stands for Designer Shoe Warehouse, and they're owned by a company called Designer Brands. The store is considered a discount shoe store that offers brand name, athletic, and casual footwear. DSW also sells accessories related to footwear like socks and shoelaces. The company also sells clothing like workout clothes. The initial idea for DSW came about in the early 1990s when founder Steve Nacht visited Atlanta and saw a discount show warehouse and liked the idea. He returned to his home in Ohio and opened the first DSW store. Since its inception, the design of DSW hasn't really changed. The big-box style retail space offers row upon row of shoes from popular brands like Vans, Skechers, Naturalizer, and Hush Puppies. In 2008, DSW launched a website for online purchases and started expanding the variety of clothing and accessories available. Shoppers could purchase their shoes and accessories online and then pick them up in the store or have them delivered.

DSW offers a generous return policy, allowing customers to return items within 90 days of purchase. This policy applies to both in-store and online purchases, making it convenient for customers to shop with confidence. To initiate a return, customers can either visit a DSW store or use the online return portal. The process is straightforward: simply log into your account, select the order you wish to return, and follow the prompts to print a return label.
One of the common complaints about DSW's return policy is the condition of the items being returned. DSW requires that items be unworn and in their original packaging to qualify for a return. This can be a point of contention for customers who may have worn the shoes briefly and found them uncomfortable. Additionally, while the return period is generous, customers are responsible for return shipping costs unless the item was defective or an error was made by DSW.
Another pain point is the processing time for refunds. Once DSW receives the returned item, it can take up to 10 business days for the refund to be processed. This delay can be frustrating for customers who are eager to receive their money back. However, DSW does offer the option to return items in-store for immediate refunds, which can be a more convenient option for those who live near a DSW location.
For exchanges, DSW does not offer a direct exchange process online. Customers must return the original item and place a new order for the desired item. This can be inconvenient for those who are looking to quickly swap sizes or styles. Despite these challenges, DSW's return policy is generally seen as customer-friendly, especially with the extended 90-day window.
