Etihad Airways Refund Policy Explained

Etihad Airways’ ticket refunds and cancellations are governed by the fare conditions purchased, the channel used to book, and the timing of the request. For many itineraries, the most reliable starting point is the “Manage” area on etihad.com, where a booking can be retrieved using the booking reference and passenger details. From there, eligible bookings may show options to cancel and request a refund, or to change travel dates, subject to the fare rules attached to the ticket.

A 24-hour cancellation rule applies to direct bookings with Etihad Airways. For guests in the United States, when travel is booked at least seven days before departure, cancellation within 24 hours of booking is generally eligible for a full refund. Outside that window, refundability depends on the fare brand and any restrictions (including non-refundable fares), and fees or charges may apply. If multiple fare brands were selected in one booking, the most restrictive fare rules may apply to the overall refund eligibility.

Timing matters. Refund requests for eligible bookings are typically required before departure; Etihad’s guidance indicates refunds can be requested online up to a limited number of hours before the flight, and a no-show fee may apply if cancellation is attempted too close to departure or after missing the flight. If the ticket has been exchanged, refund rules may follow the original ticket’s conditions. For bookings made through a travel agent or third-party seller, refund and cancellation handling may need to be completed through that seller rather than directly with the airline.

When a refund is approved, the refunded amount and method can depend on what was purchased and how it was paid. Refund amounts may be reduced by applicable fees, and may exclude non-refundable components. Optional services (such as certain paid add-ons) may be refundable in specific disruption scenarios, such as when an optional service could not be used due to a cancellation, delay, schedule change, or involuntary denied boarding. If a flight is cancelled by the airline and the passenger chooses not to travel, a refund option may be available.

If a booking was paid using a voucher or airline credit, the outcome may differ from a standard card refund. For example, if a ticket purchased using Etihad Credit is refunded, the credited portion may be returned to the Etihad Credit account, potentially with the original expiry conditions. For assistance with complex cases—such as mixed payment methods, partially flown itineraries, or bookings involving third parties—Etihad’s Help Centre provides contact channels (including chat and WhatsApp) to request support and confirm the applicable fare rules before finalizing a cancellation.
