Vrbo Return Policy Explained

Vrbo offers a 30-day return policy, which is primarily focused on cancellations rather than traditional returns, given the nature of vacation rentals. When booking through Vrbo, travelers can cancel their reservations within a specified period to receive a full refund. This period typically aligns with the property owner's cancellation policy, which can vary. It's crucial for travelers to review the specific cancellation terms associated with their booking, as some properties may offer more flexible terms than others.

One common complaint among Vrbo users is the variability in cancellation policies. Since each property owner sets their own terms, travelers may find it challenging to navigate the different policies. Some properties may offer a full refund if canceled within a certain timeframe, while others might only provide a partial refund or none at all. This inconsistency can lead to confusion and dissatisfaction, especially if travelers are not aware of the specific terms at the time of booking.

Another pain point is the process of obtaining a refund. While Vrbo facilitates the booking process, the actual refund is often handled by the property owner. This can lead to delays or complications if the owner is unresponsive or disputes the cancellation. To mitigate these issues, Vrbo encourages travelers to communicate directly with property owners and to document all interactions related to cancellations and refunds.

For travelers seeking to cancel a reservation, it's advisable to act promptly and to familiarize themselves with the property's cancellation policy before booking. In cases where a refund is disputed or delayed, Vrbo's customer service can assist in mediating the issue, although the resolution ultimately depends on the property owner's cooperation. By understanding these nuances and preparing accordingly, travelers can better navigate Vrbo's return policy and minimize potential frustrations.

I was owed a $50 refund due to a home owner breaking the contract 5 days before a month's booking. Every time I contacted VRBO I was given a different story and never received the money. Beware, they use a third party to refund money and the whole thing is shady.
